There will be a ballot for the most liked board.

Everybody clean up clean up clean up.....

With a small but dedicated group of Beach Boy members we headed out on the October Clean up day to help clean up the Waterways we paddle in.

You wouldn't know just by Looking at the Noosa river but there is alot of rubbish between the rocks under the bridges and floating in this River system.

We did a good paddle and managed to pick up 4 big rubbish bags of rubbish.

I think Jonathan went to a near by building site and gathered all there rubbish?

Great effort by all - Marita Finch is doing up a article for the paper so stay tuned.

Rainbow Sandals 2nd Annual Battle of the Paddles

This year Noosa Heads Beach Boys Surfing Club will have one of its members competing in the Elite Division of the Rainbow Sandals Battle of the Paddles.

Best of Luck to Woogie Marsh

Rainbow Sandals 2nd Annual Battle of the Paddles

October 3rd and 4th, 2009
Doheny State Beach, Dana Point, CA

About the Elite Race

The Battle of The Paddle features an offshore course that will challenge competitor’s technical and athletic skills as well as create great spectator drama. Elite Race competitors will be on stock (12’6”) SUP boards and will compete five 1.5 mile laps (approximate total distance of 7.5 miles) of an off-shore circuit that will also include an exchange area where they must beach their equipment for a short sand run around a course flag.

There will be a water start and beach finish (run up the beach) for the ELITE RACE.

That stand-up paddleboarding has become the coast’s fastest-growing ocean sport should come as no surprise. Combining surfer’s balance skills and wave riding with canoe paddler’s endurance and speed, SUP harkens back to the surfing’s Golden Age, when in the 1940s and ‘50s calling yourself a surfer meant mastering a broad variety of ocean skills.

Now come celebrate the modern West Coast waterman’s lifestyle at the Rainbow Sandals Gerry Lopez’s Battle of the Paddle, a stand-up paddle festival/exposition with a series of races and demonstrations that offer ocean athletes of all ages and skill levels the chance to experience this exciting new sport.

Staged at Dana Point’s historic Doheny State Beach, the Battle of the Paddle is more than an ordinary paddle race. For the sport’s elite paddlers it presents the first-ever championship styled SUP race featuring an offshore course that tests not only endurance but also the open-ocean and surfing skills of the world’s best men and women stand-up paddle racers. Not to mention a cash purse of over $25,000.

Invited competitors on stock (12’6”) SUP boards, will complete multiple laps on a circuit that will include beaching their equipment through the surf for a short run around a course flag on the sand. This exchange will challenge competitor’s technical and athletic skills as well as create great spectator drama. There will also be an age-group race open to all SUP craft categories (12’6” stock, 14 ft. and unlimited) that will compete on the same circuit course without the exchange.

For the recreational paddler and newcomers to the sport The Battle of the Paddle’s exclusive festival/exposition is an extraordinary opportunity to paddle with legendary watermen like Gerry Lopez, Dave Kalama, Jamie Mitchell, Kyle Mochizuki, Colin McPhillips, Titus Kinimaka and many more. You’ll meet the world’s best shapers, check out the latest board designs and paddle innovations and naturally there will be demo boards and paddles of all shapes and sizes available for those who want to perfect their stroke or even try SUP for the first time.

Country Energy Australian Surfing Festival

Two of our Club Members are in the Running for the First SUP Australian Surfing Titles

Keahi De Aboitiz & Tully St John

Australian Titles will this year be decided for the first time in the rapidly growing and now well established discipline of Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Surfing.

Surfing Australia announced the inclusion of the Open SUP division into the Country Energy Australian Surfmasters to be run at Port Macquarie during August.

Globally, Stand Up Paddle Surfing has grown in popularity incredibly over the past three years with an abundance of surfers, longboard and shortboard surfers, including a stand up paddleboard in their essential quivers and many dedicating themselves 100% to this discipline.

"The quality of Stand Up Paddle surfers emerging throughout Australia and the world is exciting and there's many past and present champions of the sport of surfing now very competent and devoted Stand Up Paddle surfers" said Surfing Australia Chief Executive Officer Andrew Stark.

"Take the two finalists at the recent Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, Joel Parkinson and Adam Robertson, both often seen in the line up riding waves on Stand Up Paddleboards, and then look at past champions like Luke Egan, Tom Carroll and Simon Anderson, all keen riders" added Stark.

"Stand Up Paddle Surfing has established itself in our sport and we are delighted to incorporate it into our Australian Surfmasters this year - the inaugural champion will take a special place in surfing's history!"

Judging criteria for the Stand Up Paddle surfers have been formulated by the International Surfing Association with an emphasis on use of paddle in performance surfing and radical manoeuvres. The criteria will shortly be available via www.surfingaustralia.com

Twelve surfers will make up the division this year, three from host state NSW, two from Qld, Vic, SA and WA and one from Tasmania.

The Country Energy Australian Surfing Festival, which incorporates the Australian Longboard Titles along with the Australian Surfmasters will run from August 16 through to August 29 as a mobile event through the surf rich region surrounding Port Macquarie.
